5 ways brands are getting leads in Social Media Events

I went to Social Media Day and had the opportunity to see how brands are getting leads in Social Media events.

Hint: Games!

Social Media Day is meant to Social Media hard fans and Social Media hard workers!

Social Media Day is celebrated at the end of every June (this year was June 25th). This time, it was hosted at CIFCO, the same place where Campus Party happened, so we were a lot more people this year!

Social Media Day has conferences during the afternoon and the after party!

At the party I had the opportunity to learn how big brands are getting leads in Social Media events.

This time I did something I have never ever done: I went to every stand of every brand.

Most of them are getting leads with branded games and others are still making raffles.

💙 Movistar El Salvador.
Movistar built a Fun House with arcade games, fire tub, pool filled with balls, Jenga, big black board, pop corn and sugar candy station.

This obviously makes people talk about them on Social Media and fall in love with Movistar.

But the direct way Movistar was getting leads was through a game they developed. It was a roulette on a big screen, everybody won something from Movistar. I won a pen and a blue jean jacket.

To play with the roulette, you had to log in with your Twitter account. They got a follow and 2 tweets with a branded hashtag. Clever.

💙 Claro El Salvador.
Claro raffled smartphones. They asked for a branded picture with a branded hashtag on Instagram or Twitter.

Then, they gave you a piece of paper to write your nickname and full name to put it on a bowl. And then proceed to the raffle.

And that was it. They got a lot of tweets and photos on their hashtag. They got 1 tweet from me and 1 photo on Instagram.

(I just shared my Instagram photo on Twitter!).

💙 Digicel El Salvador.
Digicel developed a digital puzzle game where you had to put the pieces of an ad in less than a minute.

You won an iTunes card if you did the puzzle on time. No direct lead here but the ad is still in my head and I’m a Digicel user myself.

💙 Super Selectos El Salvador.
Super Selectos also developed a roulette where everybody won something but they were asking for a follow on Instagram.

You had to show your phone where you’re following the Super Selectos account on Instagram and no need to log in with anything.

I won a big Spain flag towel.

💙 La Prensa Grafica.
La Prensa Grafica was playing a big board game but when I got there, they just told me to grab anything I wanted.

Apparently, they were looking for readers and since I’m already one, they just spoiled me!

So, there you have it, the 5 ways brands are getting leads in social media events!

Some of these ones are no brainers and can get a lot of conversion but yes, you still need money and prizes for them to actually get you leads!

I want to thank big time to La Prensa Grafica for inviting me to the Social Media Day this year! Yay, two years in a row!

Gladiator sandals are not as fierce as they told you

I got a pair of BCBG Black and Gold Gladiator Sandals. I fell in love with them since the moment I saw them, plus they were gladiators so I thought they were a great fit!

A gladiator, according to Wikipedia, is an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals and condemned criminals.

And if these are ‘gladiator sandals’ you’d expect them to be, at least, resistant.

But since they have been fashioned and Cosmopolitan called them fierce, well, they have to be also gorgeous.

I saved them for a special occasion. I wore them for the first time for my mom’s birthday!

I knew we would walk just a little bit from the bus station to the restaurant. Nothing could happen, right? At the end of the day, these were gladiator sandals! WRONG!

After 3 blocks (300 meters), 2 from the bus stop to the restaurant and 1 from the restaurant to the supermarket, my sandals were gone!

In front of the supermarket there was the other bus stop so we didn’t walk that much. So when I was walking home, I felt one feet lighter than the other.

I really thought it was something to do with the gym but when I finally got home, I realized one sandal was incomplete. The bottom part fell somewhere in San Salvador.

You’d really expect a little bit more of BCBG (a big brand present in Fashion Weeks), gladiator sandals (ready to battle or at least resistant) that Cosmopolitan called fierce (or at least ready to keep up with you for more than a mile). But no, they couldn’t even keep up with 300 meters.

Maybe if you have a car and no need to walk at all, you’ll love these sandals. They’re a little bit more than $100usd but since winter is coming, maybe you’ll find them on sale.

But if you’re a warrior like me, who loves to walk and look cute at her mom’s birthday, you need a good pair of shoes who can be loyal for more than 300 meters, like a good pair of Nike or gold Havaianas sandals or a gorgeous silver pair of XOXO sandals.

What comes after overcome fear?

Every time I’m learning something new, I feel amazed. I like that feeling and I like to remind myself I’m learning something new and feeling like this just because I could overcome fear in the past.

I find myself saying every now and then this: “See? If you hadn’t done that thing you were afraid of, you weren’t enjoying this!”.

I like to start new things, I’m feeling afraid frequently and that’s ok. Because I have found that things I’m afraid the most are the things I enjoy the most after overcome that fear and make them.

Every time I remind myself “you wouldn’t be enjoying this if you hadn’t overcome fear that time” is a permanent reminder to myself that I overcame fear once and can overcome it again and again.

But also is a way of saying thank you to the Katherine of the past.

My Casio fx-9860G Slim Graphic Calculator 💙

As I started studying engineering, I knew I needed a calculator to help me out.

I left my favorite calculator at Mexico, the one I bought on 2002. The good thing is that I know it’s safe because one of my best friends at Mexico has it.

So, I was calculatorless here and had to do something about it. As I am one weirdo girl who like to buy something that’s useful for long, I thought a graphic calculator was a great idea.

And indeed it was. I got the Casio fx-9860G Slim Graphic Calculator and it has been amazing!

I like it because it does what is supposed to. But also gives me a little bit more than what it promised!

I have had it for less than a year and to be honest, I’m still discovering some functions and menus on it.

I got it on Sears El Salvador at Multiplaza.

One of the things I like the most is that is not a big calculator. As you can fold it in half, it seems like it’s make up or something like that and saves a lot of space!

If you’re learning or practicing math, you’re gonna love it. It’ll help you a lot with Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Probability and Financial Mathematics.

If you’re learning or practicing math + physics or chemistry, this is not the calculator you need. This model doesn’t have any chemistry or physics options.

I don’t know if it’s normal for a graphic calculator to NOT have physics or chemistry functions. This is my first graphic calculator. I mention it because my last calculator, the one is at Mexico, has a lot of options to chemistry and physics. It even had a table with some constant and its value.

But this one doesn’t. So, if you need it for math, you’re gonna love it.

Remember that “just math” is still an immense world. Some things you’re definitely will love in the fx-9860G calculator are: Natural input, graph and tables, dynamic graphs, regression graphs, AP calculus, AP statistics, financial functions, spreadsheet, syntax help, eactivity and onboard function manual!

It uses triple AAA batteries to work but I discovered something recently. It can also work with electricity (instead of just plug in the USB cable, I connected the USB cable to my Nokia charger and it worked even though my batteries are dead, lol!).

What about the price? Well, I think you’ll be happy to know that this graphic calculator is less than $100 USD!

Even though it has its weaknesses, I love how much it has helped me this year!

Hey, if you like this honest review of my calculator, maybe you’ll like even more the monthly email I send to my friends at http://kath.pw 💙
